WAVERLY TWP. — The Abington area will join communities across the United States to help end hunger one step at a time, both around the corner and around the globe on April 22.

CROP Hunger Walks support the international relief and development work of Church World Service. The Abington Area CROP Hunger Walk also supports the efforts of local food banks and meal programs to eradicate hunger in the community.

Event sponsors include Abington Ecumenical Ministerium, Allied Services, Abington Rotary, Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, Eckel Farms, Scranton Label, First Presbyterian Church and Gerrity’s Supermarket.

Courtesy of the Countryside Conservancy, the Abington Area CROP Walk will take place on the Trolley Trail, beginning at Dalton United Methodist Church, 125 S. Turnpike Road, Dalton. Walk day registration begins at 1 p.m. Pre-registered walkers and teams should check in at 1:30. The CROP Hunger Walk begins at 2 p.m.

Walkers are welcome to participate in the full, six-mile walk, from end to end on the Trolley Trail and back or for the half, three-mile walk, halfway up the Trolley Trail and back. Individuals unable to walk along the Trolley Trail are still welcome to register, donate and join the festivities on April 22.
