CLARKS SUMMIT — Members of the borough council voted to approve a revised parking ordinance during a regular meeting July 11, inreasing fines for non-meter parking violations from $15 to $25. Parking meter violations will remain at $5.
According to borough solicitor Kevin Hayes, the fine has not been raised since 2001.
Members of council tabled the decision until the Aug. 1 meeting about whether to enter into an agreement to allow Clarks Green Borough to partner with the borough’s Emergency Management Department.
Hayes first announced during the borough’s May 2 meeting that Clarks Green was interested in the partnership, but talks have since stalled.
“The ball is squarely in Clarks Green’s court,” Hayes said.
Clarks Summit Chief of Police Chris Yarns announced the department received a grant for aggressive driving enforcement from July 9 through Aug. 26.
Per Borough Manager Virginia Kehoe, the vegetation for the rain garden at Carnation Park is expected to arrive July 25.
Members of the council voted, 4-3, to approve a bid of $6,400 from Hudak Waterproofing, of Taylor, to seal windows in borough chambers.
“This has been pushed on the back burner for two years, maybe more,” Council Vice President David Jenkins said. “We’re losing heat, we’re losing air conditioning. It’s not energy efficient. I think it’s well worth the investment.”
Members of the council plan to vote during a work session July 25 about whether to gear their application for a $200,000 grant toward the purchase of a new borough building or two new police cars.
