CLARKS SUMMIT — Accomplished comic books guests from across the Northeast made their way to Clarks Summit Elementary School for the Ice Wars Comic Con Feb. 16-17.
Scott Beatty, who has an affinity for the Abingtons, was happy to take part in the event Saturday.
“My wife grew up in Clarks Summit and we live locally in Lake Ariel,” he said. “I’ve always loved Clarks Summit; I was actually married at a Catholic church just down the street.”
Beatty recently contributed to “Star Wars Adventures Destroyer Down,” the top-selling comic book of 2017.
“I write comic books and children’s books, mostly,” he said. “The comic book company IDW was starting up a new book called “Star Wars Adventures” and asked me to pitch for them. I’ve been a lifelong Star Wars fan and had to opportunity to write. I just went with it.”
Bob McLeod, a long-time inker on “The Incredible Hulk,” “Conan the Barbarian” and “The New Titans,” among others, also did penciling work for Star Wars projects.
“It’s been nice,” McLeod said of the comic con. “Everybody has been very friendly and they have a lot of stuff here. I’ve been working for Marvel and DC Comics for over 40 years doing all the major superheroes. My longest run was on Superman for DC and I co-created the new mutans for Marvel.”
Mike McKenna, an artist with Marvel and DC, collaborated on “Star Wars: The Old Republic” and produced “The Blood of the Empire” and “The Lost Suns.”
“They’re my two claims to fame and I also worked on some Purge stuff with Darth Vader,” he said.
Event promoter Joe Figured felt the event was running nicely during its opening hours on Saturday.
“I think for the most part it’s going really well,” he said. “We have a lot of people coming through. The ice festival and convention kind of work hand in hand. We have a couple groups, the 501st and the Rebellion, who are in gear and are adding a nice little flavor to the whole convention.”
