Join the Abington Senior Center aboard the Carnival Pride on a trip to the Bahamas Dec. 1-8. Bus Trips to Glimmerglass Opera — Two bus trips to Glimmerglass Opera in Cooperstown, NY will be held in August. Tuesday, Aug. 13 will feature “La Traviata” and Tuesday, Aug. 20 will present “Showboat.” The trips are sponsored by Jean and Gene Starke. Fee of $95 will include bus transportation, lunch, opera tickets and a meeting with the show’s artistic director. OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS

The Pennsylvania Game Commission will present a program on the fisher as part of its summer wildlife educational series. This program will be presented on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Lackawanna State Park. Information and Education Supervisor William Williams will describe the recovery of fisher populations in Pennsylvania and explain the ecology, behavior and management of this secretive predator. This program is free but registration is required by calling 570-945-7110.

Older residents with questions about Medicare or health insurance coverage should visit state Rep. Marty Flynn’s office during his monthly outreach next week. An APPRISE counselor will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 12 at his office at 409 N. Main Ave. in Jay’s Commons to help answer questions about Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, Medigap plans, Medicare drug plans, PACE/PACENET prescription-drug coverage, and various low-income assistance programs, such as the Medicare Savings Program and Extra Help. Appointments are suggested. Residents can call Flynn’s office at 570-342-4348.

Abington Heights High School Classes of 1993 and 1994 will hold a get together from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 31 at the State Street Grill, Clarks Summit. The event includes food and two-hour open bar. William Walker Hose Company will host a “Touch a Truck” event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 on the company grounds, 803 Penn Ave. Vehicles on display will include fire/EMS, police, buses, garbage trucks, construction vehicles and more. The event will also include games and other family activities. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission is $5 for ages 6 and up and free for children under 6 years of age.
