TUNKHANNOCK — This month’s highly anticipated Open Mic Night at the Dietrich Theater will feature Breaking Ground Poets, a volunteer-run organization rooted in the belief that through storytelling, positive reinforcement, and educational programming, we can build a stronger generation of readers, writers and thinkers.

The second Open Mic Night of the year will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 20 in the Peg Fassett Performance Studio.

The Breaking Ground Poets seek to create opportunities for local youth to build self-confidence through free monthly open mics, poetry slams, the dialogue arts festival and writing workshops. The Breaking Ground Poets were given the opportunity to share their voices on a global platform as part of the Brave New Voices youth poetry festival designed to create a safe space for youth to share their truth.

The Dietrich Theater features local artists, storytellers, comedians, poets, and much more looking for a way to share their talents with an appreciative and supportive audience. Sign-ups are at 6:30 p.m. the night of the Open Mic. Next month’s Open Mic Night will take place on Friday, May 25 with as the headliner Warrior Writers, a group of veterans utilizing workshops to support artistic exploration and expression and provide a safe space to share experiences in the military culture.
