Canaletto scholar comes to Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock

TUNKHANNOCK — One of the greatly anticipated art movies in the Dietrich Theater’s Spring Film Festival is “Canaletto and the Art of Venice,” a journey into the life and art of Venice’s famous painter.

Jo-Ann Reif, Canaletto scholar, will share her extensive knowledge and appreciation of his art at the show of the film at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24.

A great love of music, art and architecture and a curiosity to see where composers and artists lived and worked have led Reif to study in Germany and Switzerland and to visit Venice and London, Canaletto’s two homes, whose grandeur and vibrancy he made his own.

Reif has a Ph.D. in Music and an M.A. in Art History and has contributed features in music history to “Early Birds” and art reviews to “ArtScene.” She will participate in the upcoming “ArtScene Treasures of Our Region” on WVIA Public Media.

For information, call the Dietrich at 570-996-1500.
