Volunteers help keep Clarks Summit beautiful

CLARKS SUMMIT — A few volunteers showed up on the morning of June 9 to help keep Clarks Summit beautiful. They participated in the Great Northeast Cleanup of Clarks Summit.

Clarks Summit Borough Council received a grant from PennDOT which supplied vests, gloves, and plastic bags for the volunteers to clean the parks around Clarks Summit. The parks included Eilenberger Park, Preate Park, Lewis Lane Park, Veterans Park, Carnation Park, and Abington Little League Park.

“I’m glad to help,” said volunteer Eugene Jerauld, of Clarks Summit, who helped clean Abington Little League Park. “It’s good to do things like this.”

Although the number of helpers was small, their work to clean the parks was big. Volunteers Jerauld and Julie Mulligan and her two children, 10-year-old Billy and 8-year-old Ryan met with Councilman Patrick Williams who led the cleanup.

“I enjoyed doing it many times through the years,” said Williams, who has served as a councilman for over 16 years. “I thank everyone who comes and helps Clarks Summit Borough to remain steadily welcoming.”

The volunteers started with Veterans Park on State Street. They picked up trash and litter around the park’s gazebo and its plants. Truck drivers honked the horns at Billy and Ryan Mulligan as they cleaned up the park.

“It’s fun to do some community service,” said Julie Mulligan who also helped clean the parks. “It’s a family affair.”

The Mulligans also picked up debris from Lewis Lane Park and Carol Park.
