SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — At the July 9 South Abington Twp. supervisors meeting, Patrick McLaine and Brian Vacendak, civil engineers of Reuther & Brown Engineering, presented plans to build a second facility for Griselli, SSI, an industrial kitchen equipment company.
“They’re (Griselli, SSI) currently in Throop,” said McLaine. “They want to move their site up into the Shady Lane Industrial Park.”
McLaine said the new building will be a 13,000 square foot office warehouse with about 10 employees. He said the lot is currently undeveloped and in a residential land zone and he presented plans of development to the planning commission. He said the engineering firm accommodated the covenants and restrictions of Shady Lane Industrial Park.
McLaine said Reuther & Bowen needs an NPDES permit in order to break ground and start building the new facility.
“We received an administrative completeness from the conservation district, and we received technical comments,” he said. “We’re in the process of reviewing them.”
McLaine also asked for a waiver to skip the requirement of one planting island for every 10 parking spaces on the site.
“We only have 10, maybe 12 people max, working here and we need 30 spaces,” said Vacendak.
McLaine mentioned two required improvement guarantees. One is improvement in the right of way and another is for stormwater improvements on the site. Attorney Bill Jones asked if these guarantees are connected to the O & M (Operations & Maintenance) agreement. McLaine said he could not be certain they are.
Vacendak said the new building will have a mounted sign. McLaine said, when the sign becomes installed, he will apply for a separate permit to meet the township’s requirements. David O’Neill suggested if they add another sign next to the entrance, it can be no taller than six feet.
Jones listed the conditions in order for Reuther & Bowen to break ground. They are: the NPDES permit, township engineers’ comments, posting of financial security, engineers’ review, recording of the O & M agreement and waiver of the landscape requirement.
In other business …
• South Abington Twp. resident Jennifer Pietryka complained that J.P. Mascaro & Sons has been inconsistent with trash pickup.
“They miss me completely or they’ll take one can and not the second can,” she said.
Pietryka said she has been calling J.P. Mascaro & Sons but they haven’t gotten back to her. O’Neill said other residents have called him and complained about the same matter.
Jones added, “If they (J.P. Mascaro) miss more than once or twice in the quarter, your next quarter is free.”
Pietryka said she won’t pay the bill if she keeps having to call the company.
• O’Neill announced South Abington Twp. received a donation from Abington Heights Civic League to go toward the South Abington Park. He said the civic league provided $2,500 last year and another $2,500 this year to go toward a pavilion.
“We’re in the works of deciding where to put a new pavilion and expenses and all that,” he said.
Supervisor Joseph Sproul said the new pavilion will be located on the far side of the basketball court.
The board voted to accept the civic league’s donation.
