FORTY-FORT — For more than two decades, Frann and Neil Edley have helped satisfy the world’s sweet tooth through their candy business, Sugar Plum Chocolates.

While based here in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the mother and son entrepreneurs have spread joy around the globe through a highly successful online and mail order business.

But it all starts with the product.

“I’m constantly working on new formulas and combinations,” said Neil Edley, who serves as innovation officer. “We are always looking for new ways to excite the customer.”

Those ways include more than 60 different flavors of chocolate and more than 80 nut flavors, he explained.

“We have anywhere from spices, to coffee blends, fruity tastes and even booze flavors,” Neil said, adding that the business also makes vegan chocolates.

With so many flavors to choose from, the Edleys make sure as many people know about them as possible. Sugar Plum Chocolates uses social media to engage with their repeat customers and future clientele.

“Social media is big for us, especially Instagram and Facebook,” Neil noted. “We also have great local partnerships that have extended our footprint in the area.”

The business, which was founded in 1995, often lists events and giveaways on their social media pages.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the business run by mother and son is preparing for an increase in purchases.

“We expect our online traffic to pick up roughly four days before the holiday,” said Neil. “We will probably get more foot traffic about two days before Valentine’s Day.”

For a $25 in-store purchase, customers will receive a chocolate rose, according to Frann Edley. Customers who spend $75 or more online will get free shipping, she added.

Reviews on the company’s Facebook page are highly positive.

“Sugar Plum is the yummiest chocolate in all the land! I especially like the hand-dipped potato chips, and the seasonal releases are great gifts,” one Facebook user said.

“This was the best piece of chocolate I ever tasted. Highly recommend it,” another Facebook user said.

Frann also said customers should stay tuned for new Easter flavors the business has in store.
