DALTON — At a special borough council meeting on March 19, council member Eric Johnson said Bill Montgomery had served as vice president of the council before Gus Vlassis resigned as president.

“As such, he (Montgomery) was promoted to interim president,” Johnson said.

Johnson recommended a motion to officially approve the appointment of Montgomery as president and the council voted to approve it. The council also voted to ratify the appointment of council member Bill Brandt as vice president.

Also, council member Len Peters, chairman of the nominating committee, announced the committee looked at four nominees to take a position on the borough council. He said they (committee members) came up with the recommendation of Dalton resident Albert Propst.

“He (Propst) currently is a member of the planning commission, and is actually the chairman of the planning commission, said Peters. “He comes to borough meetings more often that not, and he’s always shown an active interest.”

Peters presented a resolution appointing Propst to fill the vacancy on the council left by Vlassis and the council voted to appoint Propst to fill the position.

Montgomery mentioned that five people are interested in serving on the council and asked the nominating committee to interview them and give recommendations to the council. He also said he needs to appoint new check signers now that Vlassis and former council member Lorraine Daniels have both resigned.. He recommended Johnson and Peters as the new check signers.
