SCRANTON — Actors Circle presents “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw, April 25, 26, 27, 28, MAY 2, 3, 4, 5. Directed by Cathy Rist Strauch, the show is presented at Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Road at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12, general; $10 seniors; $8 students. Tickets for the Thursday, March 21 performance are $8 for general and seniors and $6 for students.

Professor Henry Higgins, a linguistic expert, takes on a bet that he can transform an awkward cockney flower seller into a refined young lady simply by polishing her manners and changing the way she speaks. One of Shaw’s best known plays, from an updated and considerably revised version of the ancient Greek legend of Pygmalion and Galatea. This also formed an entertaining motion picture and a great hit with its musical version, “My Fair Lady.”

Members of the cast are David Hunisch as Professor Higgins, Mark Fryer as Col. Pickering, Emma Ross as Liza Doolittle, Dominick Azzarelli as Alfred Doolittle, Lorrie Loughney a Mrs. Pearce, Carol Davis as Mrs. Higgins, Katie Von Bergen as Mrs. Eynsford Hill, Maddie Giardina as Clara Hill, David Alejandro Smith as Freddy Hill, Jeff Ginsberg as Nepommuck, and additional cast members are: Bernard Ott, Jane Foy, Tricia Henning, Amanda VanBuskirk, Lisa Chokola, Linda Chavez, Corey Kelly, and John McInerney. Carol C. Arena is costume designer. John McInerney is Dramaturge, Jeff Ginsberg is producer. Dominick Azzarelli is master set builder.

Jill Wetzel and her husband Gehred will perform as ballroom dancers for the special ballroom gala scene in this production on several of the show dates. Others performing on different dates are Don Strasburger and Kathy Venne, John McInerney and Carol Davis.

Cathy Rist Strauch is from Factoryville. Gehred and Jill Wetzel live in Factory while Clarks Summit residents include David Hunisch, Emma Ross, Carol Davis, John McInerney, Corey Kelly. Don Strasburger is from Waverly and Maddia Giardina is a native of Dalton.
