The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center’s Building Your Food Business workshop focuses on the development and use of a business model canvas to frame the building blocks from dream to reality.

Unlike a full business plan, which often involves many unknowns for small ventures, a business model focuses on the customers, the product, actions and relationships that will intertwine for a successful, profitable enterprise.

Certified instructors will lead discussions and hands-on activities to introduce business models tailored toward food ventures. Guest speakers will address the Food Safety Modernization Act, and how to determine how — and how much — it will impact on your dream.

In less than four hours, participants will be empowered to build their own Business Models – which will serve as a one-page illustration of how today’s activities lead to tomorrow’s goals, and a tool to “sell” the idea to advisors, partners, family and friends for their support.

This program is appropriate for people who currently have a food business to add some structure for growth, as well as those who have yet to “make the plunge.” Two identical sessions will be offered on The University of Scranton campus: Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $50 per person and includes materials and light refreshments.

Pre-registration and payment are required. Visit www.scrantonsbdc.com and view “Upcoming Classes” to register. For more information, contact The University of Scranton SBDC at 570-941-7588.
