The Lackawanna County Library System is partnering with local PBS station WVIA to encourage the community to vote for, discuss and interact with the 100 books chosen for The Great American Read, a new series coming to PBS. You can help choose America’s favorite book by voting today.

Check out a special display of these books at the Abington Community Library, along with more information on the nominees. Pick up a flyer to see which ones should be on your summer reading list. Beginning in July, join a book discussion group and come prepared to talk about your favorites.

One of the books nominated for The Great American Read is “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the classic by Harper Lee. This book is being adapted for the stage, and the library is facilitating a bus trip to New York City on Saturday, Nov. 17 to view the production on Broadway. Register today to reserve your seat on the bus; seating is limited and payment is required at the time of registration. If you plan to attend he play, the cost is $165. Simply explore NYC for the day for $35.

Don’t forget as you travel this summer to take advantage of online ebooks and audiobooks available for download from our website, lclshome.org. All you need is your library card. Additionally, the summer is a great time to learn more about technology. Schedule a free one-on-one class with a volunteer for help with email, word processing and more.
