During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Abington Community Library is hosting a series of presentations centering around breast cancer awareness and care, sponsored by Delta Medix. Each presentation is at 7 p.m. on a Thursday.
Oct. 4 was “Whole Breast Ultrasound” with speaker Dr. Susan Summerton. Still to come are “Changes in Breast Cancer Management on Oct, 11 with Dr. Kristine Kelley and “The Foundation for Cancer Care” on Oct. 18 with Margo Opasasnick. The culminating event for this series will be an art exhibition and Meet & Greet with Dr. Summerton. Her award-winning exhibition, “XPOSED: THE BODY AS ART” is on display now throughout the month of October in the Ryon Room of the Abington Community Library. Join us at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 as Dr. Summerton shares her story and inspiration. The exhibition is from 7 to 8 p.m. and a Meet the Artist Reception will be held from 8 to 9 p.m.
Donate blood at a mobile drive sponsored by LifeSource from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Abington Community Library. Additionally, drop off unused or expired medications properly at our Medication Take Back Event sponsored by Lackawanna/Susquehanna Office of Drug & Alcohol Programs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that same day.
Join us for our biggest fundraiser of the year: our annual Dorothy Boccella Holiday Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11. Enjoy free admission to this craft vendor fair which features handmade items only. Pick up your chance raffle tickets any time before then at the library: 2 for $1, 12 for $5 and 25 for $10.
