What movie in the Dietrich Summer Fest Film Festival has totally engaged you and stayed with you? For me it is “The Aftermath,” the story of postwar Germany in 1946, starring Keira Knightly, Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgard.

The British colonel sent to rebuild the city of Hamburg has occupied the luxurious home of a German father and daughter. When the colonel’s wife Rachael joins her husband, she soon learns he has allowed the father and daughter to stay in the home, relegated to the attic. Can you imagine all the twists and turns this tale could take? Add to the story the fact that Rachael and the colonel never grieved together for the unexpected death of their young son, resulting in the unspoken sadness that lingers.

I still find myself thinking about this story of war, lust, grief, and human trials. And you can still see it at at noon Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Dietrich Theater.

Also totally engaging is the intriguing story of “Red Joan,” starring the always wonderful Judi Dench.

Bursting into her tranquil retirement, the movie starts out with Joan’s sudden and unexpected arrest by MI5. Accused of being a spy, she says more than once, “You don’t know how it was.” Had this sweet old lady really been a betrayer? The movie unravels a story of youthful passion and the intrigue of warfare. You still can see “Red Joan” at noon Monday, July 29 and 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Dietrich.

Summer Fest is winding down, but summer camps for kids are still going on. There is still time to register your 6-12 year old for Acting Camp 2, Monday to Friday, July 29 to Aug. 2 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Each student will contribute to the making of a play to be performed for family and friends the last day of class. Starting with the creation of a character, then creating a story, each student will learn about working as a team, choosing costumes and props, and finally performing on stage. Michaela Moore of All About Theatre returns to the Dietrich each summer to bring theatre magic to kids.

Michaela teams with Amy Colley for the summer camp Aquaman, King of Atlantis, Theatre and Visual Arts Camp for 5-12 year olds, Monday to Friday, July 29 to Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon. The students will explore the depths of the oceans, learn about myths of the ocean, create art projects, and produce a play to share with family and friends. To register for Dietrich camps, call 570-996-1500.

Have you wanted to give your little ones the opportunity to take dance lessons? We are so pleased to invite you to Dance! Dance! Dance! with Judy Weist and Sara Grigalunas of Stage Door Dance Studio. Bring your 2-9 year olds to free classes here at the Dietrich on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 5 and 6 for ages 2-3 from 10 to 10:45 a.m.; ages 4-6 from 11 to to 11:45 a.m.; ages 7-9 from noon to 12:45 p.m. Just call 570-996-1500 to register.

Summer is not over yet at the Dietrich, Four movie theaters with hits including “Lion King.” You can still catch “The Aftermath” or “Red Joan.” You can still register your kids for summer camps or dance. What will bring you to the Dietrich? We do it all for you.
