Abington Heights dropped just one set on the way to its Lackawanna League title defense and first District 2 Class 3A boys volleyball championship.

Once in the state tournament for the first time, the Comets battled deep into each set, but District 11 runner-up Parkland pulled out the win each time in a three-set sweep May 31 at the University of Scranton.

Parkland won by scores of 25-21, 29-27, 25-20 in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A first-round match.

Nate Steenback led the team during the losing effort, finishing with 17 kills and four blocks.

Nico Bossi added seven kills while posting a team-high five blocks. James Brust had 24 assists and six digs. Colin Jenkins had nine digs. James Dadey had eight digs. Jamison Bessoir had four kills and four blocks.

Steenback led the team with 128 kills on the championship season while ranking second in hitting percentage, assists and blocks.

Bossi, the only other player with more than 100 kills, led the Comets in hitting percentage, blocks and aces.

Brust led in assists with 381.

Colin Jenkins led with 95 digs.
