Abington Heights had three players recognized when the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association named its all-state team June 30.

Freshman Lauren Stalica and senior Megan Heard were named to the first team in Class 5A while junior outfielder Bryn Stiles was selected for the second team.

Stalica made the team as a first baseman after leading Abington Heights with six home runs, 27 runs batted in and a .582 batting average.

Heard was named as a utility player. She led the team in hits (34), runs (35) and on-base percentage (.654).

Stalica also handled more than half the pitching for the Comets, who tied West Scranton for first place in Lackawanna League Division 1 before losing in a playoff for the title. She worked 79 1/3 innings, striking out 80, walking 22 and posting a 2.29 earned run average.

At the plate, Stalica led the team in slugging percentage at 1.036 with the help of seven doubles.

Heard was second on the team with a .548 batting average. She had seven doubles, 18 RBI and five stolen bases.

Stiles had a team-high nine doubles. She hit three home runs, drove in 24 runs and batted .417.

Sophomore Gianna Adams from Pittston Area, the team that eliminated Abington Heights in the District 2 Class 5A semifinals, was named Class 5A Pitcher of the Year, giving her the biggest honor of any district player recognized on the all-state teams.
