Keystone College remained within six points at halftime of its football season opener Sept. 3 before losing to visiting Wilkes University, 48-21.
The Colonels led the Giants, 13-7 after one quarter and 20-14 at halftime, before breaking away in the second half.
Mujaheed Muhammad ran for two touchdowns to lead the Giants.
FIELD HOCKEY
The Argentinian combination of Maria Belen Rodriguez-Molina and Maria Tomada accounted for all the goals Sept. 2 when Keystone College opened with a 4-1 road win at Keuka College.
Rodriguez-Molina scored in the fifth minute and went on to produce a hat trick in her Keystone debut. Tomada scored the other goal.
MEN’S SOCCER
Keystone College and Clarks Summit University each won their openers.
Axel Gonzalez and freshman Daniel Cook scored second-half goals to lift Keystone over Penn College, 3-1.
The Giants then lost to Dickinson, 8-0, when they were outshot, 22-1.
Jeremiah Taylor had a goal and an assist in the last 10 minutes to help Clarks Summit finish off a 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy University.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Clarks Summit University brought its five runners in together close to each other in the middle of the pack at the season-opening Misericordia University.
The Defenders finished sixth of eight in the team standings.
Ryan Spinello finished 39th out of 75 runner and was followed immediately by Luke Tice and Matt Ames. Adam Russo and Ethan Hofstetter placed 43rd and 44th.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Keystone College dropped its first two matches, losing in four sets to Wilkes University and Bryn Mawr College.
Clarks Summit University was swept in three sets by Hilbert, LaRoche and King’s.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Keystone College was routed by Marywood University, 7-0, in its opener.
Clarks Summit tied Wells College, 2-2, in its opener, then fell to SUNY Poly, 4-0.
COACHING HIRE
Keystone College hired Barry Morgan as the new head coach for its cross country and track and field programs in mid-August.
The former Lycoming College and Pitt-Bradford runner spent last season an assistant coach at Dickinson College in Carlisle.
Morgan was head track and field coach at his alma mater, Troy, for three years and Canton for eight years.
