Abington Heights placed in the middle of the five-team Lackawanna Track Conference Division 1 boys track and field standings, but finished strong.

The Comets handed defending LTC Division 2 champion North Pocono, which took a share of this year’s lead into the May 2 season finale, its first defeat, 76-74.

Needing a win, Michael Pirner, Jack Farrell and Jack Sorensen built a lead in the closing 1600-meter relay and Colin Donahoe held off district sprinting champion Colin Kravitz for the April 25 victory.

Abington Heights pulled out the win by taking five of seven field events, including two each by thrower Niko Williams and jumper Noe Biteau.

The Comets wrapped up the regular season with a 92½-48½ victory over West Scranton in the May 1 finale to finish 2-2 in the division.

Sean Rooney won the 1600 and 3200. Williams won the shot put and discus.

Donahoe (400) and Nick Booth (800) each won an individual event and were part of the 1600 and 3200 relay wins.

Sorensen, Pirner, Booth and Donahoe ran a time of 3:38.71 in the 1600 relay at the Penn Relays to place 375th of 569 teams.
