The entire Abington Heights softball team received an intentional walk in the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament.
The Comets learned Monday morning that they would not be playing their opener in the afternoon.
Franklin Towne Charter informed the PIAA that it was voluntarily withdrawing both its baseball and softball teams from the state tournament.
Because of the late notice, the Franklin teams were not replaced in the brackets and the Abington Heights softball and Greencastle-Antrim baseball teams received first-round forfeits in the Class 5A tournaments. The games officially go in the record books as 7-0 victories.
The first-round state games, both road trips for the Philadelphia school, were scheduled to be played a day before the school’s graduation ceremony.
Abington Heights moved into the Thursday quarterfinals against District 1 champion Oxford (21-3). Oxford eliminated Greencastle-Antrim, 6-3, in Monday’s first-round game.
