The Abington Heights girls cross country team is off and running again after Anna Pucilowski placed second and five teammates joined her in the top 17 to produce a team title Aug. 23 in the Moravian Academy Lions Invitational in Bethlehem.

Abington Heights finished second in the state in Class 3A at last year’s Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships. The Comets were also unbeaten in the Lackawanna League and champions of District 2 Class 3A.

Two-time state champion Virginia Kraus from Saucon Valley won the meet for the third straight year with a time of 17:44.

Pucilowski was second in 18:44.

Reese Morgan placed eighth in 20:49, followed by: Kiera Crowell 10th in 21:05; Calli Gilboy 11th in 21:12; Morgan Kresge 16th in 21:39; Marley Gilboy 17th in 21:49; and Kenadi Lotz 31st in 23:09.

A total of 106 runners completed the race.

The Abington Heights boys finished in the middle of the pack among Class 3A teams.

Jack Shoemaker led the way, placing 33rd of 125 in 18:35.

Timothy Fogley was 36th, George Sutton 46th, Hamza Mirza 49th and J.T. Healey 51st.

Abington Heights was the top team in the Middle School Boys race with five of the top 12 out of 108.

Owen Morgan was second, Jack Stopper third, Dylan Spatz eighth, Paul Rowlands 11th, and Owen Scharle 12th.

Abington Heights had five of the top 24 in the 149-runner Middle School Girls race.

Julia Healey was seventh, Addison Mummer 10th, Layla Caraballo 14th; McKenna Williams 21st and Fiona Grady 24th.

Robbins Invitational

DALLAS TWP. – Lackawanna Trail opened its season Aug. 31 in the Cliff Robbins Sr. Memorial Invitational at Misericordia University’s Letterkenny Fields.

Avery Ronchi was ninth out of 206 finishers in the varsity boys race.

There is no team scoring in the Robbins Invitational.

The top finisher from other Lackawanna Trail teams: Noah Perry, 12th of 145, junior high boys; Shelby Malamud, 20th of 143, junior high girls; and Averie Higgins, 74th of 141, varsity girls.
