The Abington Heights girls basketball team excelled in tournament competition during December.

The Lady Comets closed the month by using a balanced scoring attack to win the championship at the first Parkland Holiday Tournament.

Abington Heights lost its first tournament game of the month at the State College Tip-Off Tournament, but came back with a record-setting performance by Maggie Coleman, who hit nine 3-point shots in the consolation game.

Parkland Holiday Tournament

Maggie Coleman and Lily Scoblick scored 11 points each as Abington Heights won the championship game 38-27 Dec. 28.

Scoblick also had six rebounds.

Emma Coleman had nine points and four steals while Maggie Coleman had three steals. Madeleine Walsh chipped in six points.

Parkland led 21-20 at halftime, but managed just six points the rest of the way.

Scoblick had seven points and Emma Coleman five in the third quarter when the Lady Comets took a 32-23 lead.

Walsh had 18 points in the semifinal, a 56-47 victory over Bethlehem Liberty. She went 6-for-8 from the line.

Emma Coleman had a 3-pointer in each quarter while scoring 16. Maggie Coleman had 12 points, all in the first half, along with three assists and three steals. Sarah Cantner added eight.

State College Tip-Off Tournament

The Lady Comets traveled to Centre County Dec. 6-7.

After a 49-40 loss to Norwin, they pounded Williamsport 72-23 as Maggie Coleman surpassed Rachel McDonald’s school record for 3-pointers in a game by one.

Maggie Coleman made the all-tournament team after her 31-point effort.

Emma Coleman had 20 points and four 3-pointers. Walsh had 13 points.

Walsh led the team with 12 points against Norwin.
