Abington Heights finished in a three-way tie for second place in Lackawanna League Division 1 wrestling, splitting January matches with the teams with which they finished tied.

The Comets went 1-2 in division matches in January, beating West Scranton 34-28 Jan. 8, but losing the division finale at Delaware Valley 34-28 Jan. 22.

Abington Heights lost league matches to the two teams that wound up in the District 2 Class 3A Dual Meet championship match. They lost to division and district champion Wallenpaupack 39-24 Jan. 15.

Brian Heard and Frank Scalpi had first-period pins at 172 and 215 against West Scranton. Mason Whitney and Luke Evans posted technical falls at 133 and 145.

Lackawanna Trail

Lackawanna Trail went 1-3 to finish fourth out of five teams in Lackawanna Division 2.

The Lions were 1-2 in league matches during January, beginning with a 45-30 loss at North Pocono Jan. 2.

The Lions won 41-35 Jan. 8 at Western Wayne, which wound up wrestling in the District 2 Class 2A Dual Meet final.

Lackawanna Trail also lost to division and district champion Honesdale 62-12.

The Lions won the last three bouts to rally from 11 down and beat Western Wayne.

Carson Ware and Isaac Ryon had pins at 160 and 172 to take the lead, then Kaylix Douglas secured the win with a 15-0, technical fall at 189.

Demetrius Douglas (215), Matthew Shafer (107), Riley Borruso (114) had first-period pins in the match.

Scranton Prep

Scranton Prep had a title shot going into the Lackawanna Division 3 final which it lost 65-12 against Blue Ridge Jan. 22.

The Cavaliers finished 3-1 for second place in the division. They beat Mountain View 42-24 Jan. 13 and Montrose 33-30 Jan. 15.

Scranton Prep got all its points against Mountain View n seven forfeits.

Jacob Kowalski’s 52-second pin at 189 clinched the victory over Montrose.
