WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Logan Fanning missed just one shot while scoring 20 points and controlling the middle March 1 when Old Forge defeated Lackawanna Trail 54-32 in the District 2 Class 2A boys basketball championship game at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.

Fanning grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked five shots and made three steals. The 6-foot-5 junior center was 8-for-9 from the floor and made all four of his free throws.

“We’re not used to having a big guy at Old Forge,” coach J.J. Thomas said. “ … He’s a special player, a special kid and we’re lucky to have him at Old Forge.”

The Blue Devils, who reached the state semifinals in 2021 and 2022, spoiled Lackawanna Trail’s debut at the arena, site of District 2 championships for the past 10 seasons. The Lions were the only newcomer in this season’s set of 11 games over three days.

Old Forge held Lackawanna Trail scoreless for almost six minutes while turning a 4-3 lead midway through the first quarter into a 21-3 advantage early in the second quarter.

Lorenzo Domiano led the Lions with 11 points while Jake Antolick had 10 and Jimmy Phillips nine.

Domiano was 5-for-6 from inside the arc and 5-for-9 overall from the floor. He matched Phillips for a team-high of four rebounds while Old Forge was dominating the boards by a 38-18 margin.

Phillips also had a game-high four steals and blocked a shot.
