The District 2 Class 5A girls basketball playoffs had historic significance, both positive and negative for the Abington Heights Lady Comets.
Maggie Coleman broke her own school record for 3-pointers in a quarterfinal victory, but the team lost in the semifinals, ending its status of having been the only team to appear in every season of district basketball championships at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.
Abington Heights had played in the first nine finals at the arena, winning six championships.
Abington Heights 63, North Pocono 30
Maggie Coleman hit a dozen 3-pointers while scoring a career-high 40 points in the quarterfinal game Feb. 20 at fourth-seeded North Pocono.
The fifth-seeded Lady Comets opened a 41-18 halftime lead behind eight of the 3-pointers and 28 points by Maggie Coleman. She went on to break her record of nine.
Maggie Coleman finished 12-for-19 from long distance.
Emma Coleman added 12 points.
Crestwood 56, Abington Heights 39
Charlie Hiller scored 18 points to lead top-seeded Crestwood, the eventual champion, to the semifinal victory Feb. 22.
Lily Scoblick scored 11 points and Maggie Coleman 10 for Abington Heights, which finished 13-11.
