Abington Heights players were prominent in producing an 8-6 victory by Team White over Team Purple June 22 when the Field of Dreams softball game was played at the University of Scranton.

The game was for recent graduates of Lackawanna League teams.

Lady Comets coach John Kelly managed the winning team and his three players accounted for the final three outs as Team White held on for victory in the seventh inning.

Team White led 8-2 until Team Purple scored four runs on five hits, three of them for extra bases, in the bottom of the sixth.

Team Purple brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning, but the comeback ended there.

The on-field Abington Heights trio of Hunter Kresge, Cecelia O’Malley and Lauren Stalica teamed up one last time to end the threat.

Kresge caught a flyball in center field for the first out of the seventh inning. O’Malley fielded a groundball to second base for the second out. Stalica finished off Team Purple with her seventh strikeout of the game.

It was Kresge who got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. She led off with a walk and came around to score.

The game was tied 1-1 before O’Malley had an infield single and scored and Kresge produced an RBI groundout in the five-run fourth.

Stalica also was part of the offense with a single and a walk.

Izzy Wilmot, another Abington Heights player, was selected for the game, but was unavailable and did not participate.

The winning team combined players from Carbondale, Delaware Valley, Holy Cross, Lakeland, Mid Valley and Old Forge with those from Abington Heights.

Lackawanna Trail’s Aquinniah Lawrence doubled in the first run and scored the second during Team Purple’s sixth-inning rally.

Team Purple was coached by Joe Miraglia from North Pocono. It featured players from Dunmore, Forest City, Montrose, Riverside, Scranton, Valley View and Wallenpaupack in addition to those from Lackawanna Trail and North Pocono.
