Abington Heights outfielder Thomas LaCoe was one of four East players to drive in a pair of runs June 22 in a 9-2 victory over the West in the first Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game at Penn State’s Medlar Field.

LaCoe singled in the two runs. He also was one of two players to steal a base in the game.

The East team was made up of players from Districts 1, 2, 3, 11 and 12.

Max Forgione from Dunmore was one of two players with two hits in the game, which was being played for the first time this year.

Field of Dreams

Abington Heights was the most-represented team when Lackawanna County and the Bill Howerton Strike Out Cancer Initiative conducted the Field of Dreams Game at PNC Field June 21.

Tate Pentasuglio, Hunter Pentasuglio, Conner Abel, J.P. Kehoe and LaCoe all contributed to the Bombers pounding the Fightins 15-5 in the nine-inning, all-star game for recent Lackawanna League graduates.

LaCoe and Tate Pentasuglio started in right field and left field. They each singled to drive in a run, then came around to score as the Bombers put up six runs in the first inning.

Tate Pentasuglio walked, then scored again on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-0.

Kehoe came off the bench to pitch and play first base. He had two hits and scored a run in the seventh. Hunter Pentasuglio, who came in at catcher, drew a bases-loaded walk in that inning when the Bombers scored their last four runs.

Abel played shortstop in the win.

Tony DiMattia from Old Forge coached the Bombers, who drew players from Carbondale, Dunmore, Honesdale, Mid Valley and West Scranton as well as Abington Heights and Old Forge.

Michael DeRichie and Paul Rusincovitch from Scranton Prep each pitched and played in the field for the Fightins.

DeRichie tripled in the top of the sixth and scored his team’s first run.

The Fightins were coached by Sandy Menichetti from Holy Cross. The Fightins had players from Forest City, Mountain View, North Pocono, Scranton, Valley View, Wallenpaupack and Western Wayne along with those from Holy Cross and Scranton Prep.
