South Scranton swept top-seeded Abington out of the playoffs on the way to the Sebastianelli Senior American Legion Baseball League title.

Abington entered the postseason on a seven-game winning streak, but South Scranton won 2-0 July 9 at Abington Heights High School and 7-2 the next day at Connell Park.

John Petrosky struck out 11 in a three-hit shutout for South Scranton in the first game of the best-of-three series.

Thomas LaCoe had two hits and Derek Locker doubled for Abington.

Carson Bird went the distance on the mound and threw a five-hitter in the loss.

South Scranton used a six-run first inning to produce the second victory.

Bird had two hits and drove in a run for Abington.

South Scranton had joined Green Ridge and Dickson City with 9-4 records for a three-way tie for second place, 1½ games behind Abington during the regular season.

Pitching and defense carried Abington to the first-place finish. It held nine opponents to zero or one run scored.

Junior

The Abington Junior Legion team put together a late three-game winning streak to finish 7-7 and in fourth place out of six teams, but then was knocked out of the playoffs without winning a game.
