Hugh Kirwan picked up his first varsity victory as Keystone College football coach Sept. 27 when the Giants defeated visiting Maine Maritime Academy 47-22.
After going 1-9 in 2024, including 1-4 as a Landmark Conference member, Keystone scaled back its football schedule this season.
The Giants faced a junior varsity and a prep school opponent before playing two National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III games in September. They will play three more Division III opponents before finishing with a game against a junior college team.
Western Wayne graduate Frankie Leyshon passed for 224 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
The Giants converted all five of their fourth-down attempts.
A week earlier, Keystone was limited to 123 yards total offense while falling to Southern Virginia 42-0 in the opener.
Men’s soccer
Keystone went 1-6 during September when it was shut out five times.
The Giants began October with a 2-7 overall record.
Keon Morris scored the first goal and assisted the second as Keystone jumped in front by two goals on the way to a 3-1 victory over Washington Adventist University Sept. 16.
Women’s soccer
The Giants entered October with an 0-6-1 record.
The lone tie came Sept. 9 in a 4-4 game with Penn State-Scranton.
Victory Frantz and Brooke Freni each scored twice and each assisted on both of the other’s goals.
