Anna Pucilowski won the six-team race and Abington Heights navigated the most important day of the Lackawanna League season to emerge as the only unbeaten team in the girls’ cross country standings.

Schools that travel together in three-team clusters are only scored against each other just once a season and that was Sept. 23. Valley View and North Pocono are the teams that Abington Heights runs with each week.

The Comets beat all five opponents Sept. 23 at Valley View. They handed both Elk Lake and Valley View their first defeats of the season.

Abington Heights downed Elk Lake 23-36 in its closest challenge of a season when the Comets are winning by an average of 29.6 points. They handled Valley View 21-40.

The Lady Comets also topped Montrose (19-42), North Pocono (16-45) and Blue Ridge (15-50).

Pucilowski completed the 3.1-mile course in 18:21.5.

Marley Gilboy and Calli Gilboy were fifth and sixth out of 57 runners. Marley Gilboy finished in 19:59.6.

Morgan Kresge was 10th and Julia Healey 12th. Kennadi Lotz was 14th and Addisyn Mummert 17th.

Abington Heights took a 12-0 record into its Sept. 30 meet after also sweeping its opponents in two other cluster meets.

Pucilowski broke a 13-year-old course record set by Tessa Barrett of Abington Heights when she won the race at Susquehanna in 19:16.2.

Scranton Prep was 9-3 and Lackawanna Trail 1-12 going into Sept. 30.
