Jack Stopper led the way Sept. 6 when Abington Heights won the junior high boys team title in the 31st annual Lackawanna County Commissioners Cross Country Invitational at McDade Park in Scranton.
The Comets had three of the seven runners who broke the 10-minute mark on the 1.8-mile course and had five of the top 14 finishers in the 127-runner field.
Abington Heights easily won the team title 34-91 over second-place Danville. A total of 11 full teams competed.
Frank Pacelli from Holy Redeemer won in 9:16.9.
Stopper took second, beating two opponents to the finish line by less than a second with a time of 9:43.4.
Dylan Spatz was fifth, John Webber sixth, Will Frankowski 11th, and Noa Thomas 14th.
Abington Heights was second of 11 teams in the junior high girls’ race.
Danville won the team title with 35 points. Abington Heights outscored third-place Scranton 67-121.
Caroline Peoples led Abington Heights, taking seventh out of 125 with a time of 11:09.3.
Fiona Grady was 14th, McKenna Williams 15th, Elena Mitchell 17th, Alexandra Wintermute 19th and Elle Pucilowski 25th.
