Scranton Prep showed late-season signs that it could still be a force among small schools, but ultimately the Cavaliers came through one of District 2’s most challenging schedules as a .500 team.
The Cavaliers went 2-2 in October to finish 3-3 in Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 and 5-5 overall.
North Pocono 24, Scranton Prep 21
North Pocono needed a Cole West-to-Chase Zimmerman touchdown pass with 4:09 left in the Oct. 24 game at Dunmore to complete its first perfect regular season of the millennium.
The Trojans had already clinched the outright LFC Division 1 title, but found themselves behind when Will McPartland capped a 12-play scoring drive with his third touchdown of the night with 8:23 remaining.
Zimmerman passed to West for 43 yards to get the winning drive started. They reversed roles when West stepped in as the Wildcat quarterback on fourth-and-seven from the 11 and found Zimmerman for the game-winner.
Josiah Gray and Zimmerman each rushed for more than 100 yards for North Pocono.
West added the game-clinching interception following the fourth lead change of the night.
McPartland hit nine of 14 passes for 116 yards and carried 18 times for 87 yards.
Scranton Prep 51, Jersey Shore 19
Terry Gallagher picked up his 100th straight coaching victory as Scranton Prep pounded Jersey Shore, a state-ranked Class 4A team, Oct. 17 in a non-league game at Dunmore.
Jersey Shore scored first, but Noah Krzywiec put Scranton Prep in the lead with a 41-yard run late in the first quarter. He made it two touchdowns in a row with a 26-yard run in the opening minute of the second quarter.
Will McPartland, who ran for three touchdowns and passed for one, and Krzywiec each rushed for more than 100 yards.
Scranton Prep 35, Mid Valley 0
Scranton Prep bounced back from a 17-15 loss to rival Abington Heights the week before by shutting out host Mid Valley in an Oct. 10 non-league game.
Will McPartland ran for three touchdowns and Braedon McPartland broke a 66-yard touchdown.
