Ayla Seigle scored 23 points as Lackawanna Trail completed a season sweep of Carbondale with a 46-20 home-court victory in a Lackawanna League Division 3 game Jan. 23.
Consistent high scoring by the senior has not been enough for the Lady Lions to find success elsewhere.
Lackawanna Trail broke a nine-game losing streak in the outing.
Despite Seigle’s 20 points per game, the wins over the Chargerettes are the only ones the Lady Lions have managed. They headed into February with a 2-8 Lackawanna League Division 3 record and 2-16 overall mark.
The team has managed several close contests, including a frustrating, 12-day stretch of near misses from Jan. 8 to Jan. 19. During that time, Lackawanna Trail lost to Susquehanna 45-40, defending champion Elk Lake 44-38 and Forest City 58-56.
Seigle did her best to match the division’s most productive scorers in Lackawanna Trail’s last two games of January.
Blue Ridge’s Abigail Gelinger, already a 1,000-point career scorer as a junior, had 34 points in a 61-50 victory.
Seigle countered with 24 for the Lady Lions.
Three-time, all-stater Addison Kilmer followed up becoming a 2,000-point scorer in her previous outing by scoring 31 to lead division leader Mountain View past Lackawanna Trail, 63-44.
Seigle had 27 in that game against last year’s state Class 2A semifinalists.
