SCRANTON — Jordan Shaffer from Abington Heights landed Blue Team Most Valuable Player honors March 22 during a 115-104 loss to the Red Team in the boys game to complete the doubleheader of the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association Senior All-Star Basketball Games at Scranton High.

Shaffer had the game’s only double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds, six of them offensive.

Dunmore’s Jimmy Clark made six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Red to victory and earn its MVP award. Clark was 10-for-22 from the floor with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Clark made three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter when Red scored 41 points and overcame a two-point deficit.

Packy Doherty from Scranton Prep made his only two shots in the fourth quarter.

Doherty contributed 13 points, a team-high five defensive rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot. He made all five of his shots from inside the arc, but struggled from long distance, going 1-for-9.

Scranton Prep teammate Brody Martin added six points, three offensive rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Shaffer was one of three Abington Heights starters for the Blue. He was 11-for-17 from the floor, including 3-for-5 on 3-pointers. He also had two assists.

Andrew Kettel and Finn Goldberg joined him in the starting lineup.

Kettel was 4-for-7 from the floor for eight points to go along with six rebounds and a team-high four assists.

Goldberg had two points, four rebounds and an assist.

The winning Red team featured players from Riverside, Scranton, Valley View and West Scranton in addition to those from Dunmore and Scranton Prep. It was coached by Scranton’s Tony Battaglia.

Delaware Valley’s Kris Holtzer coached the Blue, which had his players and others from Elk Lake, Honesdale, Mid Valley, Montrose Old Forge and Wallenpaupack in addition to those from Abington Heights.

Shaffer finished second in the pre-game 3-Point Shootout to Riverside’s Mikey Schimelfenig.

Girls

Mountain View’s Addison Kilmer was named MVP of the Blue team after the soon-to-be, four-time, first-team, all-stater scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked eight shots in a 43-24 victory over the Red.

Dunmore’s Amanda Dempsey was MVP of the Red with four points, six rebounds and a steal.

Ayla Seigle from Lackawanna Trail started for the Red and led the team with three assists. She had a rebound, took only three shots, all of which were 3-point attempts, and did not score.
