Scranton Prep was the last Lackawanna League girls basketball team standing, advancing to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 4A semifinals with three victories before falling to the eventual state champions.

Neumann-Goretti 59, Scranton Prep 51

Reginna Baker made all 10 of her free throws over the final 1:27 on March 17 to finish with 23 points and secure Neumann-Goretti’s semifinal victory at Bethlehem Liberty.

The Saints followed it up by improving to 7-0 in state championship games at The Giant Center in Hershey with a 53-48 victory over Oakland Catholic.

Neumann-Goretti never trailed against Scranton Prep, taking leads of 15-11 after one quarter, 28-20 at halftime, and 44-37 through three quarters.

The Classics closed to within two points in the third quarter.

Eva Kaszuba led Scranton Prep with 17 points while Chloe Mamera added 15 and Ava Fenton had 11.

Chrisette King and Zion Coston combined for 21 points and 20 rebounds for Neumann-Goretti.

Scranton Prep 49, Susquehanna Township 43

Mamera finished with 22 points, and Shannon Bestrycki’s 3-point shooting helped Scranton Prep rally in the fourth quarter for the quarterfinal victory at Pottsville’s Martz Hall March 14.

Bestrycki had three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 points.

The teams were separated by two points or less at the end of each of the first three quarters.

Scranton Prep 63, Allentown Central Catholic 28

Scranton Prep ran away early in the second-round game at Hazleton Area on March 11.

The Classics led 26-9 after one quarter and extended the advantage to 39-14 at halftime and 54-17 through three quarters.

Kaszuba led the way with 15 points, while Mamera added 14 and Fenton had 11. Carly Krzywiec had two of Scranton Prep’s three 3-pointers and finished with nine points.

Morgan Seagraves had 16 points, but the VIkettes did not have another player with more than four.

Scranton Prep 52, Lancaster Catholic 27

Scranton Prep held visiting Lancaster Catholic scoreless in the second quarter on the way to a 25-6 halftime lead March 7 in the first-round game.

The Classics forced 25 turnovers.

Kaszuba led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Mamera added 15 points and nine rebounds.
