Andrew Kettel from Abington Heights and Packy Doherty from Scranton Prep combined to lead the way March 30 when the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association defeated the Wyoming Valley Conference 104-88 in the boys nightcap to the second annual NEPAHoops Senior All-Star Basketball Games at Marywood University.

Kettel was named team Most Valuable Player after scoring 12 points, leading the team with five assists and grabbing five defensive rebounds.

Doherty scored a team-high 19 points by going 9-for-15 from the floor.

They joined teammates Jordan Shaffer from Abington Heights and Brody Martin from Scranton Prep in the starting lineup and immediately went to work.

Doherty made a steal for a breakaway layup for a 5-0 lead and the LIAA never trailed. He scored again off a feed from Kettel, who then took a defensive rebound coast-to-coast to score on a spin move for a 9-2 lead. Doherty’s 3-pointer made it 12-4 after four minutes.

The LIAA scored 19 points over the last five minutes for a 44-30 halftime lead. During that stretch, Doherty had 10 points while Kettel had eight, hitting a pair of 3-pointers and also making a steal which he again used to assist one of Doherty’s baskets.

Shaffer had two points, two rebounds and a blocked shot in the win.

Martin grabbed three rebounds, dished out two assists and blocked a shot.

Scranton Prep’s Larry Reagan coached the team to victory.

Camrin Shovlin from Wilkes-Barre Area was the WVC’s Most Valuable Player with 21 points and five rebounds.

David Jannuzzi was Wilkes-Barre Area hit 15 shots in 45 seconds to win the 3-Point Contest at halftime.

In the girls opener to the doubleheader, Kate Reed from Nanticoke was MVP of a 79-62 win by the WVC.

Reed scored 17 points, going 3-for-5 on 3-pointers and 7-for-9 overall from the floor. She also won the 3-Point Contest.

Ruby Martin from Honesdale was MVP for the LIAA with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Lackawanna Trail’s Ayla Seigle started for the LIAA and made all three of her shots in the first four minutes to keep her team within 11-9. She added a 3-pointer later in the half for nine points, which was the most on the team to that point before being held scoreless in the second half.

Seigle also had two rebounds, two assists and a steal.
