Scranton Prep’s Lukas Iannone claimed a silver medal in the Class 2A boys 200-yard individual medley at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships, which were conducted March 11-14 at Bucknell University.

In addition to the second-place finish in 1:53.07, Iannone took fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.70.

The top eight out of 32 in each event reached the final, securing medals and team points. The next eight after qualifying competed in the consolation finals, placing ninth through 16th and also scoring team points.

Ben Kessler was 15th in the 100 backstroke and the Cavaliers took 15th in the 200 medley relay.

Scranton Prep finished 15th in the team standings with 38 points.

Kessler was also 19th in the 200 freestyle.

The Cavaliers were disqualified in the 200 freestyle relay.

Class 2A girls

Scranton Prep took fifth in the final team standings with 114 points.

Shady Side Academy beat out Franklin Regional 185-179 for the championship.

Ella Schofield, Eva Kaszuba and Rebecca Oakes all produced fifth-place individual finishes while the Classics took second place in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 freestyle relay.

Schofield was fifth in the 200 IM, Kaszuba in the 100 backstroke and Oakes in the 100 butterfly. Schofield also finished eighth in the 100 backstroke while Oakes was 16th in the 100 freestyle.

Sophia Galko placed 31st in the 50 freestyle.

Class 3A boys

Derek Williams finished 14th in the 50 freestyle and Micah White was 16th in diving to score state points for Abington Heights.

The Comets finished 52nd out of 60 teams that scored, producing four points.

Williams was also 31st in the 100 freestyle.

Ryan Horutz was 20th in diving.

Jason Casper finished 18th in the 100 butterfly and 25th in the 500 freestyle.

Geoff Stanton was 31st in the 100 backstroke.

The Comets took 24th in the 200 medley relay but were disqualified in the 400 freestyle relay.

Class 3A girls

Hadley Pallman had the top Abington heights finish, taking 20th in the 100 butterfly.

Pallman also competed in the 100 freestyle, taking 30th.

Gianna Vacchino was 29th in the 50 freestyle and Kaitlyn Giermanski was 30th in the 100 breaststroke.

The Lady Comets were 30th in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
