Abington Blue opened the District 17 Major Little League Baseball tournament June 27 with an 11-0, five-inning victory over North/East/Connell Park.

Evan Ross had a two-run homer to cap an eight-run first inning.

Jaxon Hizny pitched the first three innings of the shutout, and Max Shursky held North/East/Connell hitless for two innings.

Abington White lost 5-3 to North Pocono June 25 in another Major (10-12-year-olds) game.

9-11-year-olds

Abington was left waiting for the results of other games to determine its fate after going 1-3 in pool play.

The team won its second game, beating Connell/East/Jefferson 12-1 June 23.

Timmy Deschaine doubled, singled and drove in three runs.

Abington scored eight runs in the second inning with the help of a two-run Gio Tunis triple, a two-run Deschaine double and an RBI double by Gus Moraski.

The losses came to Dunmore and North Pocono, each by 11-8 scores, then Moosic, 4-3, June 27.

8-10-year-olds

Ford Eckenrode and Stephen Strauch drove in three runs each when Abington routed Dingman Delaware 15-0 in three innings.

Eckenrode had a two-run triple.
