Abington recovered from a 0-6 start in Senior American Legion baseball by putting together a five-game winning streak between June 11 and June 23, and had a 5-8 record for fifth place out of eight teams in District 11.
Alec Weinberger was batting .455 with 11 runs scored in seven games.
Anthony Hanyon was at .400 while playing in all 13 games.
Colin Lalley and Christopher Tayoun shared the team lead with 10 RBIs.
The winning streak started with a 14-8 victory over Montrose and continued with a 15-10 win over Dickson City, a 4-3 victory over West Scranton, a 16-8 win over first-place South Scranton and a 5-4 triumph over Black Walnut.
Lalley drove in four runs against Montrose.
A balanced attack featured nine players with one or two hits each in the win over Dickson City.
Ryan Barry worked a complete game on the mound without walking a batter against West Scranton.
Weinberger and Brian Moran each drove in four runs and scored three against South Scranton. Weinberger had a home run and a double. Moran went 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Liam Moran held South Scranton scoreless over the final 3 1/3 innings.
Lalley’s bases-loaded single with none out in the bottom of the seventh produced the fifth straight win.
Junior Legion
The Abington Junior American Legion team scored in double figures in each of the wins while taking four out of five games to move to 7-6.
Abington topped Black Walnut 18-0 and 10-4 in five-inning games, then lost the opening of a June 27 doubleheader to Montrose. Abington won the second game of the doubleheader, 16-1, then outslugged Archbald, 18-11.
Danny Collins drove in four runs while Nate Graff and Caleb Gardner combined on a one-hitter in the rout of Black Walnut. Owen Phillips and Julian McDonough were each 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and three teammates also added two hits in the second win.
Phillips doubled, singled and scored three times in the five-inning romp over Montrose. McDonough struck out seven of the eight batters he faced.
Phillips had three hits, including two doubles, while stealing four bases, scoring four runs and driving in three against Archbald. Maxton Vazquez doubled, singled and drove in four runs against Archbald.
