CLARKS SUMMIT — Allie Rothenberger took advantage of one last game on her home high school lacrosse field.
The recent Abington Heights graduate and future Rider University player was the Blue team’s leading scorer and Most Valuable Player in a 12-8 loss to the Red team in the girls opener to the NEPA Lacrosse Senior All-Star Games doubleheader.
Rothenberger, one of seven Lady Comets helping to host other senior standouts, scored three goals and assisted on another.
The second annual all-star game was for recent graduates of Wyoming Valley Conference programs. Players from Bethlehem Liberty and Selinsgrove were added to the invite list as well this season.
Ellis Carr, a Gardner-Webb University commit from Bethlehem Liberty, had five goals and an assist while landing MVP honors for the Red.
Team Caporuscio, also known as the Red squad, was coached by Crestwood assistant Aaron Caporuscio, and assisted by Crestwood boys coach Brian Zabroski. Team Yankow, the Blue, was guided by 2024 Abington Heights graduate Caly Yankow with assistance from Greg Yankow, her father, and Abington Heights head coach Becky Davis.
The Red featured players from Crestwood, Dallas, Wilkes-Barre Area and Bethlehem Liberty. The Blue team had players from Abington Heights, Lake-Lehman, Wyoming Seminary and Selinsgrove.
“Today was all just about having fun and getting to know each other,” Rothenberger said. “It was really fun having all the girls from the area come up to our field and play.”
Rothenberger said she enjoyed showing off the atmosphere of a game at Abington Heights and the new facility in which the team plays.
Along with getting to know some rivals better, Rothenberger was surrounded by familiar faces as well.
Sophia Santarsiero, a Keuka College player, made 11 saves in goal.
Brielle Crowell, who had a goal and three assists, and Kiera Crowell are both headed to York College.
Rylee Yankow scored two goals.
Grace Keris and Harper Pallman also represented the championship Abington Heights team.
Carr had three of her goals in the first quarter when Crestwood’s Jordan Andrews had two goals and an assist to help Red to a 6-3 lead.
Red held Blue to a single goal in each of the middle quarters, opening its lead to 11-5 while dominating possession. It led 25-9 in shots through three quarters and 29-16 for the game.
The Dallas combination of Sarah Snowdon and Lyla Wydra added to the Red scoring. Snowdon had two goals and two assists while Wydra had a game-high three assists.
