Abington Heights’ Anna Pucilowski makes her way past runners in the 3A Girls 1600-meter run. She finished second.
Multiple event district champion Anna Pucilowski from Abington Heights was the female recipient of the eighth annual Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship.
The award, which includes a $500 scholarship from a fund established by friends and family of the late track and cross country official, honors outstanding runners from District 2 schools. Cody Adams from Elk Lake joined Pucilowski as this year’s winners.
Pucilowski will continue her running career on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level at James Madison University in Virginia, where she plans to major in kinesiology. She won her third District 2 Class 3A individual gold medal in 2025 and captured a 3200-meter gold medal, along with two silvers and a bronze in track this spring.
The memorial scholarship was established following Wojnar’s death in 2018. He was a record-setting local runner, the co-founder of the Wyoming Valley Striders running club, a teacher, a coach and a championship event official. His family remains active in running sports on the local and state levels.
