The 2025 Abington Heights football team was selected as the Pennsylvania 5A state winner for the 2025-2026 National Football Foundation National High School Academic Excellence Award.
Abington Heights also received the award in 2024.
The Comets were one of three Pennsylvania teams recognized. The others were Parkland, a Class 6A school, and Delaware County Christian, a Class A team.
The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation presents the annual awards in which the NFF and College Hall of Fame presented to 95 schools from around the country.
According to a press release, the initiative honors the top academic football teams from each level of play within each state and is designed to inspire and foster a culture of academic excellence in high school football teams throughout the nation.
Eligibility requirements for the awards include: a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; superior academic application and performance; and a successful football season. Each state’s high school coaches association selects their respective state’s winners from a pool of nominees submitted by head coaches.
