Abington Heights jumped out to the early lead in Lackawanna League girls tennis by posting shutout victories in its first two matches, then beating Wallenpaupack twice on the same day by 3-2 scores.
Going into Aug. 31, the Lady Comets were 4-0, and Scranton Prep was the only other unbeaten in Division 1 with a 2-0 start.
Abington Heights won four times in three days.
The Lady Comets dominated singles while sweeping Valley View and Delaware Valley by 5-0 scores Aug. 24 and 25.
Amishi Amit lost just one game in four sets at No. 1 during the shutouts.
Addie Stark won both her matches 6-0, 6-0.
Katie Arp also won 6-0, 6-0 against Valley View when the Lady Comets lost just four games in 10 sets.
Sammy Rosenstein had the other No. 3 singles win.
The Lady Comets are defending District 2 Class 3A champions.
Scranton Prep won the title last year, when the Lackawanna League was not split into divisions, and went on to win the District 2 and PIAA state championships in Class 2A.
Lily Lengel is back leading the Scranton Prep singles lineup after winning a state title in doubles last year.
Abington Heights plays Scranton Prep at home Sept. 9 and on the road Sept. 25.
