Brianna Moffatt and the Abington Heights girls golf team strung together a series of victories during August.
Moffatt won individual titles while leading the Lady Comets to team titles in the season-opening Happy Valley Invitational at Penn State Aug. 13 and in the Ann Marie Simons Classic Aug. 25 at Tall Pines.
Margot Grad and Moffatt joined Riverside’s Raigan Monahan to tie for medalist in the Scott Greens Classic with 37s, and the Lady Comets tied the Lady Vikes for first place in the 12-team event.
Abington Heights also went unbeaten in matches with Moffatt often leading the way and Liz George setting a school record by shooting 2-under-par, 34 on two birdies and seven pars at Glen Oak during a 114-140 victory over North Pocono Aug. 26.
The win over North Pocono also featured a school record team score, with Grad adding a 39 and Moffatt a 41.
The season opened with Moffatt shooting a 77 to finish first among Class 3A players at Penn State.
Grad added an 84 and George an 87 for the win.
Abington Heights put up its best 18-hole team score while winning the Simons Classic for Lackawanna League teams.
The Lady Comets posted a 239, including Moffatt’s winning 75.
Grad took third on a tiebreaker over George after each shot 82.
Awards were also presented for the lowest score in each class after the top three had received theirs.
George was the top senior. Molly Nietz won low freshman with a 101.
Abington Heights had two players shoot in the 30s in two other wins. George posted a 37 and Moffatt a 39 to beat Honesdale 125-147. Moffatt had 38 and Grad 39 as part of a 121 team score to beat both Riverside (137) and Scranton (153) at Pine Hills.
The latest win came 124-186 over Scranton Prep at Glen Oak Aug. 27, when Katie Arp joined Grad in shooting 41s while George and Moffatt had 42s.
