Hayden Manning and Alyssa Jury scored the goals Aug. 29 when Abington Heights opened the field hockey season with a 2-1, non-league victory over Northwest.
Rachal Regan assisted on Manning’s goal.
The Lady Comets return six starters from last year’s team.
Addie Waters is back in goal; Manning and Maddy Mooers return on defense; Willow Newman is back at midfield; and Emma Dougherty and Elena Mastroianni return to the forward line.
Heather Forbes is in her second season as head coach and is assisted by Heather Bluhm.
The Lady Comets have already matched last year’s regular-season victory total. They were 1-17 before pulling off a quarterfinal upset at Wallenpaupack in the District 2-4 Class 2A Subregional, then playing Dallas tough in a 1-0 loss in the semifinal.
After two seasons in Division 1, where they were 1-9 to finish 10th of 11 teams last season, Abington Heights has dropped back down to Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference. They are scheduled to open conference play Sept. 8 at Nanticoke.
