BASEBALL

Warriors too much for Lions

Elk Lake defeated Lackawanna Trail, 8-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 game April 24 in Clinton Township. Shawn Jones had two hits and an RBI. Jordan Edwards had two hits and D.J. Klinges drove in a run.

Comets blank Hornets

Anthony Duboski had two hits and four RBIs to help Abington Heights defeat Honesdale, 6-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2-3 baseball crossover game April 18 in Honesdale. Jake Swank had a hit and two RBIs and Luke Fayocavitz drove in a run. Swank allowed two hits and struck out four batters as the winning pitcher.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Crestwood routs Abington

Despite three goals from Brennan Tates, Abington Heights fell to Crestwood, 16-4, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match April 20 in Clarks Summit. Ashley DeRiso scored the team’s other goal.

SOFTBALL

Lady Warriors clip Lady Lions

Elk Lake defeated Lackawanna Trail, 1-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 game April 24 in Clinton Township. Samantha Baltrusaitis had three hits and Allison Strauch had one.

Lady Comets shut out Lady Knights

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 8-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game April 20 in Scranton. Nina Kozar and Meghan McGinley each had a hit and two RBIs. Catherine Anne Kupinski had two hits. McGinley, the winning pitcher, allowed three hits and struck out six batters.

Comets rout Hornets

Timmy Christman, Brian Ostrowski and Spencer Gilbert had singles wins to help Abington Heights defeat Honesdale, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match April 24 in Honesdale. Rory Harris-Varun Iyengar and Arjun Iyengar-Kyle Osterhout added doubles wins.

Comets hold off Crusaders

Abington Heights defeated Holy Cross, 4-1, in a Lackawanna League match April 21 in Scranton. Bailey Harris, Timmy Christman and Brian Ostrowski had singles wins. The doubles team of Rory Harris-Varun Iyengar also posted a win.

Comets top Vikings

Bailey Harris, Timmy Christman and Brian Ostrowski won singles matches to help Abington Heights defeat Riverside, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match April 20 in Clarks Summit. The teams of Varun Iyengar-Kyle Osterhout and Chris Hobbie-Jacob Rosenstein earned doubles wins.

Comets sweep Bucks

Abington Heights defeated Dunmore, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match April 18 in Clarks Summit. Bailey Harris, Timmy Christman and Brian Ostrowski had singles wins. The doubles teams of Spencer Gilbert-Owen Holland and Varun Iyengar-Jacob Rosenstein also posted wins.

Lions crush Sabers

Lackawanna Trail defeated Susquehanna, 106-32, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 meet April 24 in Clinton Township. Matt Kinback placed first in the 800, 1600 and high jump. Dakota Moyle finished first in the 110 and 300 hurdles; Greg Ellsworth was first in the discus, javelin and shot put; Jeff Resto-Medina placed first in the 100; Miguel Ella finished first in the 200; Matt Bergey was first in the 400 and Bobby Titus placed first in the 1600. Trail’s 400 relay (Resto-Medina, Ella, Moyle, Bergey), 1600 relay (Luke Baldwin, Julian Koch, Ella, Resto-Medina) and 3200 relay (Titus, Sam Vierling, Jared Klepadlo, Kinback) teams also placed first.

Two Comets place first

Abington Heights’ Kyle Burke finished first in the 1600 and Antonio Maletta placed first in the 300 hurdles during the 11th annual Red & Black Invitational April 21 at East Stroudsburg University.

Comets down Cavs

Abington Heights defeated Scranton Prep, 101-49, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 meet April 18 in South Abington Township. Antonio Maletta placed first in the 110 and 300 hurdles and high and triple jumps; Jovan Mitchell finished first in the 100, 200 and 400; Kyle Burke was first in the 1600 and 3200; Dan Uhranowsky placed first in the 800; Mickey Farry finished first in the shot put and Nick Klapatch was first in the pole vault. The Comets 400 relay (Baba Osuntokun, Matt Borgia, Nick Emmett, Matthan Sherman), 1600 relay (Tucker Schimelfenig, Ethan Mattox, Mitchell, Uhranowsky) and 3200 relay (Cole Madera, Connor Kryeski, Mattox, Uhranowsky) teams also finished first.

Meteors too much for Lions

Montrose defeated Lackawanna Trail, 111-39, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 meet April 18 in Clinton Township. Matt Bergey placed first in the 400, Alec Jones finished first in the long jump and Matt Kinback was first in the high jump.

Lady Sabers hold off Lady Lions

Susquehanna defeated Lackawanna Trail, 84-61, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 meet April 24 in Clinton Township. Tori James placed first in the 800, 1600 and 3200 to lead Trail. Courtney Petrilak finished first in the triple jump and Madison Swanchak was first in the high jump. Trail’s 3200 relay team (Ashleigh Clarke, Lauren Beemer, Kathleen Rodenbach, James) also placed first.

Lady Comets excel at ESU

Abington Heights’ Calista Marzolino placed first in the 100 hurdles and high jump during the 11th annual Red & Black Invitational April 21 at East Stroudsburg University. Allyson Derry finished first in the 100 and Katie Dammer was first in the 1600.

Calista Marzolino set a school record with a score of 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump and also placed first in the 100 hurdles. Allyson Derry finished first in the 100 and long and triple jumps; Dani Beamish was first in the 400; Anna Marchetta placed first in the 300 hurdles; Annie Wesolowski finished first in the 800; Emily Clauss was first in the 200; Katie Dammer placed first in the 3200; Schuyler Smith finished first in the shot put; Arla Davis was first in the javelin and Dani Heine placed first in the pole vault. The Lady Comets 400 relay (Derry, Erin Albright, Heine, Clauss), 1600 relay (Albright, Marchetta, Beamish, Hannah Hughes) and 3200 relay (Blanca Calvo, Wesolowski, Dammer, Celia Davis) also placed first.

Lady Lions edge Lady Meteors

Lackawanna Trail defeated Montrose, 78-68, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 meet April 18 in Clinton Township. Courtney Petrilak placed first in the 100 hurdles, Lauren Beemer finished first in the 300 hurdles, Ashleigh Clarke was first in the 3200 and javelin, Emily Herron placed first in the shot put, and Cassandra Brown finished first in the discus. The Lady Lions 400 relay (Lauren Baldwin, Paige Hyde, Willow Burnell, Isabella Jagoe) and 3200 relay (Clarke, Beemer, Swanchak, Victoria James) teams also placed first.
