Lady Comets go 1-1 in tourney

Abington Heights finished third in the Lady Cougar Tip-Off Tournament by defeating host Hazleton Area, 55-46, in the consolation game Dec. 9. The Lady Comets were defeated by Harrisburg, 47-37, Dec. 8.

In the win over Hazleton, Sharon Houlihan scored a team-high 13 points and added four steals for the Lady Comets. Hannah Kowalski scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Cassie Ksiazek finished with nine points and six rebounds, Hannah Hughes scored nine points, Clair Marion and Maria Tully each scored five points, and Erin Albright had two points and eight rebounds. Maddie Mrochko scored 14 points and Virginia Yurchak added 10 for the Lady Cougars.

In the loss to Harrisburg, Ksiazek scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Houlihan added 10 points and hit two 3-pointers.

Lady Sabers top Lady Lions

Susquehanna defeated Lackawanna Trail, 56-42, in a girls basketball game Dec. 11 in Clinton Township. Lexie Kwiatkowski led Lackawanna Trail with 10 points. Cali Fauquier added nine points and six rebounds for the Lady Lions, and Rachael Beemer also scored nine points. Taylor Huyck finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds for Susquehanna. Mackenzie Steele added 18 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Lady Sabers.

Lions drop two games in tourney

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Wallenpaupack, 49-29, in the Lake Region Tip-Off Tournament Dec. 8. Shawn Jones, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led Trail with 16 points. Elijah Rosenthal scored 12 points and Gabe Springer added 11 for Wallenpaupack.

Lackawanna Trail fell to Monticello, 62-47, in the consolation game of the tournament Dec. 10. Jones scored 18 points and Zac Cost added 12 for the Lions. Alberto Florez scored 21 points for Monticello.

Comets crush Spartans

Abington Heights defeated Wyoming Valley West, 77-55, in a non-league boys basketball game Dec. 11. George Tinsley led the Comets with 25 points. Jackson Danzig scored 20 points and Trey Koehler added 19 for Abington Heights. Draig Cooley Ruff led Valley West with 29 points and Justus Simpson added 14.
