After seeing just limited action as a freshman, sophomore Sam Arnold is starting at third base for the Muhlenberg College baseball team. The Mules are 7-8 after a 10-4 victory over Wilkes March 19 in Allentown. Arnold, an Abington Heights grad, had two hits in the game – the fifth time he’s recorded two hits in a contest.

Arnold, who played in nine games but started the final four at third base last year as a freshman, hit his first collegiate home run in a 10-inning, 5-4 victory over Marymount (Va.) Feb. 25 in Washington, D.C.

“Sam has done a great job this year, both defensively at third base and at the plate,” coach Tod Gross said. “He worked really hard on his swing during the fall season and also during our indoor practices in February.”

At third base, Arnold has made three errors on 37 chances (.919).

“Early on this season, Sam has made some good plays at third base,” Gross said.

The Mules are scheduled to kick off their Centennial Conference season with a doubleheader March 31 against Gettysburg College in Gettysburg.
