Lackawanna County Commissioners Bike Safety Fair, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 at McDade Park, Scranton. Three hundred helmets will be given away free-of-charge to the youngsters who attend. Bike safety talks will be done by local police officials. The county is coordinating a helmet design competition. The designs will be judged and one boy and girl will win a bike, provided by Strive. A drawing for another bike will be conducted the day of the fair. The coloring competition is open to all public school districts and private schools throughout Lackawanna County along with the general public. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday, June 19. They should be mailed to the Lackawanna County Commissioners Office, 200 Adams Avenue, Sixth Floor, Scranton, PA 18503. There will be several fun activities, child finger printing by the District Attorney’s Office, face painting and giveaways. Hot dogs will be served, compliments of Schiff’s Restaurant Service. Deanna Klingman’s Girls Basketball Offensive Skills Clinic, July 2-6 at the Abington Heights High School gymnasium. Players in grades 2-5 will attend the morning session from 9 to 11:30 a.m., players in grades 6-9 will attend the afternoon session from noon to 2:30 p.m. Cost: $85 per camper. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will start at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a Fun Run for children under age 12, led by Officer Wilding’s nine-year-old daughter, Lola, and additional children’s activities. Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Ptlm. John J. Wilding Memorial Scholarship Fund, which supports cadets at the Lackawanna College Police Academy. A pre-race day Happy Hour will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. July 20 at Backyard Alehouse on Linden Street in Scranton. Cost: $20, which includes a limited open bar and food. Proceeds will also benefit the scholarship fund. Those who register for the Run/Walk prior to or at the Happy Hour will receive a $5 discount on admission.
