HERSHEY – Ethan Mattox led the way for Abington Heights Saturday when the Comets finished 14th in the state in Class 2A boys cross country.

The Abington Heights girls also competed at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships and finished 17th of 19 teams in Class 3A.

On a day when wind blew over tents and muddy conditions made runners proceed carefully on hills, Mattox completed the 3.1-mile Hershey Parkview Course in 18:20 to finish 96th in the 228-runner field.

Freshman Allison Dammer led the girls, finishing in 21:32 for 131st out of 228 runners.

The Abington Heights boys placed ahead of five teams. They lost a sixth-runner tiebreaker for 13th place after matching Punxsutawney with 309 points.

Three seniors led the way for the Comets, finishing within eight places and six seconds of each other. Stephen Haggerty was 101st and Ryan Siebecker was 104th.

The rest of the Comets were: Gavin Ross in 163rd; Damon Martin, 179th; Sloan Seid, 203rd; and Noah Bolus, 208th.

Abington Heights ran two freshmen and a sophomore in the Class 3A girls race. The other finishers behind Dammer were: Hannah Hughes, 147th; sophomore Abby Marion, 160th; Modupe Osuntokun, 173rd; Sarah Bath, 180th; Emma Arbuckle, 120th; freshman Ellie Saunders, 122nd.
